            There are several video games came across our mobile phones, PCs and cassettes. And also gained their reputations for a while. But one legend remains the unbeatable character in the video game history which goes by the name Super Mario. It was initially called as 'Jumpman'. It was his first appearance in 1981 as a carpenter, who had to jump over barrels that were being thrown by Donkey Kong(villain) in order to save a Damsel(heroine) from danger.

            In 1985, Super Mario Bros. defined Mario and Developed its game structure  which turned the character into a mega star. It still remains an incredible character as well as game behind all the latest updates and advanced games. This game began the concept of game addiction. 

            Mario's uniform was designed because of the technological limitations of video games in 1981. He has a hat because, realistic hair was difficult to depict, a moustache to accentuate his nose and dressings to  make his arm movements more noticeable. He was popularly a plumber but he also played more roles in the video game dynasty such as physician, archaeologist, kart racer and even a golfer.

            To praise its legacy, National Mario Day was celebrated in March 10. It would take place on mar 10 every year, simply because when abbreviated to ' MAR10' it resembles his name, 'MARIO'.

            It was the highest selling video game of that era. A rare version of the classic 1985 Super Mario has been sold at the the auction for $114.000, the most ever paid for a video game. The cartridge, still in its original packaging, sold to an anonymous bidder. It was the most successful game in the franchise, having sold an estimated 40.24 million copies worldwide .

            It remains the most popular video game characters based on sales with approximation of 507 million +. So here's to Mario - gaming's most popular character. Early 90's survey revealed that Mario was more recognisable to children than Mickey Mouse.
