Dawood Ibrahim : India's Top Fugitive

            We might have come across many stories and sayings that "cop's son turned criminal". A best example for that is Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar. He was born as a son of head constable in Mumbai police in Ratnagiri district of Maharastra. Then, he was raised in Doongri, there he joined Ahmed Sailor High School. But, he was dropped out of the school as his father could not afford his education.

           After that he joined a gang of boys who have been residing in his area and got into hooliganism. When he was 19 years old, he joined with a mobster called Haji Mastan. Later, he got rid of him and formed his own gang along with is brother, Shabir Ibrahim Kaskar. That gang was popularly called as 'D - company' or Dawood Company in 1970s. The company rapidly got its notoriety by engaging in international drug trafficking, counterfeiting, weapons smuggling, extortion, target killing and terrorism. 

           Many charges were made against him by the Mumbai police to arrest him. So, he fled to Dubai. He was one of the masterminds in the 1993 mumbai Attacks. One of his gang member who goes by name Chotta Rajan turned into his rival and did many things to pull Dawood down. He followed the tricks of Dawood and became a gangster in Mumbai.

            When we look at his influence, we would surely get stunned. He had connections with many celebrities in all fields. He had easy access to cricket player's dressing room including Kapil Dev. In fact, he was also involved in IPL spot fixing 2013. Till now, match fixing is one of main businesses of D - Company. His investment also registered its landmark in technologies. In 2011, Indian Intelligence deposed that D - Company was linked in the 2G spectrum scam through a company called Swan Telecom. He also had connection with many bollywood actors and directors. Even many films have been made on his life such as Company, D, Black Friday, Once upon a time in Mumbai, D-Day and Shootout at Wadala.

            Not only in India, his links were goes on extending even abroad. Dawood sits at the top of the organised crime syndicate in South East Asia - Dubai, India and Pakistan. His company also exists in UK, Germany, Turkey, France, Spain, Morocco, Cyprus, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka,  Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. He had direct link with Pakistani Inter-Services intelligence, Al-Qaeda, Lakshar-e-Toiba, Afghanistan's Talibans.

             He was married to Mehjabeen shaik. Together, they have 3 children. In 2006, Dawood's daughter Muhrukh Ibrahim married Junaid Miandad, son of Pakistani cricketer. In 2011, his daughter Mehreen was married to Ayub, a Pakistani-American. The same year,his son Moin married Saniya, daughter of London based business tycoon. Till 2015, his net worth was 5,023 crores, which is next to Pablo Escobar. 

            After 1993 Mumbai serial blast, he  became most wanted criminal of India. In 2003, USA Government declared him as 'a global terrorist'. In 2011 Forbes' listed him as the 3rd in World's top 10 dreaded criminals.
